Let me first give you some info regarding their hair textures.
Brandin is 3 years old, and has smooth textured, thick hair with lots of curls towards the bottom of his hair. His hair gets tangles very easily, and tends to frizz. Dylan is 2 years old, and has very fine textured hair that doesn’t frizz or tangle too much, and has more bouncy curls closer to the top of his head.
Natural Hair Products For Toddlers With Curly Hair
I wash my boys hair everyday, especially during the hot Summer. Now, just because I am washing their hair daily doesn’t mean I’m using shampoo regularly.
Four days out of the week I use a conditioning co-wash to cleanse their hair, and the other 3 days I use shampoo.
For the washing process, these are the two natural hair products that work great for them:
- Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Co-Wash Conditioning Cleanser
- Shea Moisture 100% Virgin Coconut Hydrating Shampoo
Both of these do a great job removing any dirt, or oil that they have accumulated in their hair, and keeps their curls nice and soft.
Next, I like to use a conditioner on them. My holy grail for them is also from Shea Moisture.
This conditioner seals in the hydration and makes their hair super soft.
After coming out of the bath, I use Aquis hair towels to dry their hair. ABSOLUTELY NO HEAT! It is really important to dry your hair with a special towel, or even a tee-shirt because it prevents your hair from breaking, and actually dries your hair faster. I have several of these Aquis towels and highly recommend them!
Now it’s time to detangle if there are any left after cleansing and conditioning. I discovered the brand SoCozy kids at Target and love them! For detangling I use two products:
- SoCozy Kids Detangler + Leave-In Conditioner and use it on my boys daily. It contains Kiwi and smells amazing. It is in spray form, so it’s really easy to cover any area you want and control saturation.
- Wet Brush
My boys hair gets detangled so quickly with the help of these! The Wet brush is very gentle which I love because it creates minimal tugging on the hair.
Lastly, if we are going out anywhere that I really want their hair to stay in place I can count on one product.
This style milk locks their curls into place, and maintains a shiny, defined look even throughout their active days of play.
So that concludes the simple, natural curly hair routine I use on my toddler boys. I hope you try out some of these awesome curly hair products and love them as much as we do!
